You can read quite a detailed plot report of Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion over at IESB. Beware of possible spoilers should you choose to read it.

Furthermore, Jude Law recently spoke to Coming Soon about the film and his role in it. Click on the link for the full article.

Contagion is not until the end of the year and I’m one of a large number of people in a big ensemble, so I’m doing like 10 days on that, in San Francisco, I think. Well, the subject matter is really interesting, it’s very current. It’s about a contagious disease spreading across the world and how it affects different elements. Be it the public, the medical services, the emergency services, politicians. I play someone online, a blogger, who is kind of a fearmonger. And I just like the part, I really like the part, and I just love Steven Soderbergh films. I think he’s a great talent.”

We finally have some further details regarding the Untitled Peter Farrelly/Charles Wessler Project, courtesy of The Independent. The segment starring Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman is called The Catch.

Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet star in a segment called The Catch in a multi-sketch film shot by Peter Farrelly (of the Farrelly brothers) and several other directors. Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are other actors working on this project.

The other directors in this film include actors Elizabeth Banks and Griffin Dunne, Brett Ratner (New York, je t’aime, X-Men: The Last Stand), and Charles Wessler (Dumb and Dumber and the upcoming Three Stooges).

This collaborative idea from Farrelly and Wessler strings together a series of stories with a unifying theme, similar to films in the 1970s such as Kentucky Fried Movie. The two worked on There’s Something about Mary. Based on the success of ensemble films like Valentine’s Day, a star-studded film with a modest budget could well work again.

Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pearce have been tapped to co-star opposite Kate Winslet in Mildred Pierce, Todd Haynes’ five-hour miniseries for HBO.

Melissa Leo, James LeGros and Brian F. O’Byrne also have been cast in the project, which HBO is co-producing with MGM, Killer Films and John Wells Prods.

Haynes is directing the adaptation of James M. Cain’s classic noir novel, which centers on Mildred Pierce Beragon (Winslet), a wife who separates from her unemployed husband, Bert (O’Byrne), and takes a job as a waitress while struggling to earn her daughter Veda’s (Wood) love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.

Padma Lakshmi’s pregnancy threw a wrench into Top Chef season seven plans. “We were supposed to shoot in January, but we pushed it to April 5 because of her baby,” Tom Colicchio said last night at the Bravo upfront party.

But perhaps their pregnant pause was for the best — especially since it gives Kate Winslet ample time to find time in her schedule to appear on the show! “I met Kate Winslet at a party the other night, and she said, ‘I want to come on the show,’” Tom told PopWrap. “So I said, ‘Kate, you’ve got an Oscar in your hands, you can do whatever you want!’”

Should the Emmy nominated show — which is headed to a brand new city for its seventh season — snag Kate, it will be the first Oscar winner, and arguably the most famous face, to belly up to Judges Table.

But Ms. Winslet has big shoes to fill, the last time Hollywood broke break with Top Chef, Natalie Portman delivered one of the most memorable meals in show history! “I was shocked at what actually made it on the air,” Tom said of the double entendre-tastic outing.

From: The Guardian, December 2008

Kate Winslet is back with two films – one directed by her husband, Sam Mendes – and she’s a hot prospect for the Oscars. Kira Cochrane meets an actor at the top of her game

There is a moment in Revolutionary Road that sums up why Kate Winslet is such a stranger to bad reviews. Her character, April Wheeler, is a former drama student and mother of two, who is living a cramped existence with her cramped husband, Frank, in a cramped house in Connecticut. It’s the kind of lonely, picturesque community where all that whispers down the sidewalks at night are the echoes of snippy, suburban arguments. This drudgery isn’t what April expected from life, and she has lately been funnelling all her energy into escaping with her family to Paris – a chance to start anew that seems at once both distant fantasy and entirely within reach.

Then she and her husband spend a day at the beach with their neighbours. As Frank starts talking about his improved prospects at work – and it becomes clear to April that the Paris dream might potentially fall away – the camera closes in on Winslet’s face, immobile and obscured by sunglasses, a shot that would make it hard for an average actor to convey anything much at all. In that moment though, poise meets devastation. April wordlessly, almost imperceptibly, implodes.

Loved Kate Winslet’s Academy Awards look? Want to imitate her impeccable style for a special evening out? Look no further! I’ve compiled details straight from Kate’s hairstylist and make-up artist so you can give it a go yourself.

Frederic Fekkai’s Renato Campora styled Kate Winslet for Oscars 2010. The hairstyle and inspiration: A modern day Veronica Lake, classic Hollywood glamour. Here’s how to get Kate’s gorgeous Oscars 2010 hairdo:

Start by applying FEKKAI COIFF STRONG HOLD VOLUME MOUSSE mixed with the FEKKAI COIFF PERFECTOR ANTI-FRIZZ SILKENING CRÈME from roots to ends. He made a side part before he dried the hair. He dried the hair with FEKKAI LARGE ROUND BRUSH and pined it in place as it cooled down. Next, he used a one inch curling iron to create soft loose waves. He finished with FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY.

THE PRODUCTS ALL BY FEKKAI: Fekkai Coiff Strong hold Volume Mousse ($23), Fekkai Coiff Perfector Anti-Frizz Silkening Crème ($25), Fekkai Large Round Brush ($65) Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray ($23)

Kate’s long-time makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey, is responsible for her soft, ethereal make-up. Both the eyes and the lips got equal attention on this Oscar winner. Shimmering, champagne-pewter shades highlighted the eyes, while very saturated mascara delivered that extra definition. A pop of pink blush on her cheeks gave Kate just a hint of a natural flush. Jillian topped off the look with nude-pink lips.

"How the hell did I get that lucky [to have two compelling roles] in the same 12-month period? It's really rare and remarkable, and I don't take that position lightly. It might not happen like that again - I'm well aware of that. You know, the truth is, I'm just going to bloody well make the most of it."
