The December 1997 issue of Australian Vogue printed excerpts of Kate Winslet’s diary from the filming of Titanic. In her diary Kate candidly documenting the process of filming Titanic from her personal perspective, from her first meeting with James Cameron in 1995 to the final takes of the film in 1997. Needless to say, Kate’s diary is a must read for both Kate Winslet and Titanic enthusiasts alike! Unfortunately, the issue of Australian Vogue is very hard to come by but you can read on for Kate’s diary here at Kate Winslet Forever. Enjoy the rare treat!

Today I met [director] James Cameron. Even though I haven’t read for him yet, he showed me a model of the Titanic and how they were going to do the special effects shots by using a pen which is actually a tiny camera.. The story is incredible, horrible. One lifeboat only just missed landing on top of another. Some were sent out with 11 people on them and yet so many people drowned. The character he’s considering me for is called Rose DeWitt Bukater, a 17-year-old from Philadelphia who is about to marry a man she can’t love. She’s on this ship, feeling as if she is about to be condemned for life, only to find true love on board the Titanic…

I’m a bit sad to report that Avatar has broken yet another one of the records previously held by Titanic. I don’t know about you but to me Titanic is a far superior film out of the two but, of course, it’s not like box office really says anything about that.
As expected, Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron’s Avatar surpassed previous all-time record holder Titanic to become the highest domestic grossing film ever with $601.1 million.
Avatar beat Titanic‘s $600.8 million benchmark yesterday after earning nine Academy Award nominations, including picture and director. Pic tied with Summit’s The Hurt Locker for the most nominations.
Cameron’s 3D sci-fi opus has topped the domestic B.O. for seven consecutive weeks and continues to muscle out competition overseas, topping nearly every major market. Avatar has earned $1.45 billion on the international front to become the newest overseas record holder after Titanic.
Pic also holds the record as the highest worldwide grosser with a cume of $2.05 billion.

This is not directly related to Kate but I thought the Titanic fans might be interested to know that it seems James Cameron’s newest film Avatar has now surpassed Titanic and become the highest worldwide grosser of all time.
Update: According to ComingSoon.net, Avatar has reached $1,858,866,889 while Titanic earned $1,843,201,268 total. The theatrical run of Avatar continues in 122 countries around the world on over 16,000 screens with 72% of the box office, or $1.35 billion, coming from 3D screens thus far.
James Cameron has conquered the worldwide box office, again.
As of today, 20th Century Fox and Cameron’s Avatar surpassed previous record holder Titanic to become the highest worldwide grosser of all time.
Fox said final figures won’t be available until Tuesday, but with weekend numbers for Avatar totaling $1.838 billion worldwide, pic’s expected $15 million domestic earnings should give the pic enough steam to sail past Titanic with a global cume of $1.842 billion.
