Mare Winningham has landed the last major role on HBO’s miniseries Mildred Pierce.
Mildred Pierce, Todd Haynes’ five-hour miniseries based on James M. Cain’s noir novel, stars Kate Winslet as Mildred Pierce Beragon, a wife who separates from her unemployed husband (Brian F. O’Byrne) and takes a job as a waitress while struggling to earn her daughter’s (Evan Rachel Wood) love in Los Angeles during the Great Depression.
Winningham will play Mildred’s friend Ida Corwin.

Emma Stone spoke to Movieline about the Untitled Peter Farrelly/Charles Wessler Project. and revealed some details about the Kate Winslet/Hugh Jackman short, titled The Catch.
“That one is so much fun,” said Stone, who had sat down to talk more generally about her upcoming indie Paper Man, which opens April 23. “It’s a series of 17 short films — kind of like Kentucky Fried Movie. It that vein. It’s just really, really funny. Kieran Culkin and I did our short together a couple of weeks ago, directed by Griffin Dunne. But wait until you see the Kate Winslet/Hugh Jackman one. That’s the only other one I’ve seen. The humor is so raunchy.”
Wait, huh? Winslet and Jackman? “Raunchy?” We all know Winslet will do just about anything on camera, but Jackman? What?
“Well. all of the stories are completely different,” Stone continued. “I think they’re going to tie them together; I don’t know how. I can’t give it away, but theirs is called The Catch. He’s a bachelor… but there’s a catch. She’s going on a date with this bachelor, and you will not believe what you see when you see it. It’s so f*cking funny. It’s so funny. And then Kieran and I are exes, and I’ve come to return his… toys. He’s working at a grocery store — on the night shift — and we have this very intense exchange. They’re all these five-minute shorts. You’ll really like it.”
Additionally, The Daily Telegraph has revealed that Hugh will play a man whose testicles are located under his chin while Kate plays a woman who goes out on a date with his character. That sure sounds… Interesting, to say the least!
The Playlist, which has proved to be a reliable source for scoop regarding Contagion, has revealed further details regarding the film and its characters. According to it Kate Winslet’s character is called Dr. Erin Mears and she is battling to find a cure for the disease together with Laurence Fishburne’s Dr. Ellis Cheever. This certainly sounds like a different kind of role for Kate! Hopefully it will be a meaty one as well.
As the infection begins to spread, we meet a collection of other characters around the world. Dr. Ellis Cheever (Laurence Fishburne), the head of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and his colleague Dr. Erin Mears (Kate Winslet) are both battling to find a cure for the disease, the latter being sent to examine Emhoff at home in Minnesota, while European doctor Leonora Orantes (Marion Cotillard), works for the World Health Organization, has a similar aim; heading to Hong Kong to investigate what appears to be the genesis spot of the breakout. Alan Krumwiede (Jude Law), meanwhile, is a hungry, truthseeking blogger with an unfortunate interest in conspiracy theories, who is responsible for spreading information about the disease, both true and false, around the world.
Kate’s older sister Anna Winslet can be seen as Isabel on stage in The Power of Love at the Courtyard Theatre in London, starting March 24, 2010. Check out the Courtyard website for further details on the play. I really wish I could go and see the play myself as I find Anna both gorgeous and talented. Hopefully some of you in the London area will be able to catch The Power of Love.
The Power of Love is what brought Isabel and Matt together, now could it be what tears them apart?
Questioning whether love is ever real, they start understanding that nothing is what it seems. It isn’t long before Isabel digs up the past in order to save their future, and what she discovers leads both Matt and Isabel to question their deepest desires and make the ultimate choice to decide whether their love will last forever…
As the story reaches its shocking climax, the audience discovers that no one is what they seem to be. The Power of Love: A modern play for a modern audience.
While I strongly believe that the break-up between Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes is none of our business, I thought I’d post this report from People to hopefully help put some of those crazy rumors circling around the internet to rest. This will be the last time I will post about Kate and Sam’s break-up, unless there will be official statements made by Kate or Sam themselves. Kate and Sam specifically requested privacy in their statement and I believe as fans we should honor that request. And besides, the purpose of this site is to post updates regarding Kate’s career and not her personal life.
So far, there’s no finger-pointing or fiery accusations marking the end of the nearly seven-year marriage between Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes: In fact, a source tells People the couple “just grew apart.”
Winslet stuck with the relationship for a while for the children, but Mendes’s tendency to be a workaholic is one of the reasons the couple split, says the source. They separated in January, but decided to keep it quiet until after the Oscars.
